This year, the Vermont Community Development Association’s (VCDA) annual conference was titled, “Growing Food and Growing Economies.”
The Association is an organization of individuals who are interested in working together on community development issues. Members are from the private, non-profit, and public sectors and work for state and local government, consulting firms, non-profit organizations, and for profit businesses.
With discussion focused around the food and farming economy of Vermont, three separate panels offered up information about their slices of the food system’s pie. One panel described different monetary and educational support programs available to farmers, another relayed stories of organizing around local food, and yet another provided first-hand accounts of farming in Vermont.
Food is certainly on the radar.
